Original Paintings for Sale

I make small paintings of the landscapes around me in rural France – those that inspire me every single day. I’m painting my joy into a little canvas that I like to think then finds its way to loving homes and spreads joy there.

Latest listings are here – or read on to find out more about why I'm creating miniature postcard-size and ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) original paintings of rural France.

Why I'm making miniature art

In our troubled world, making miniature paintings feels like a way to spread love and joy through affordable original art, when forces are hard at work to take that away.

I like to think of it as some kind of joy connection – spreading love for life and nature that will defeat all the hate!

I live in the Tarn with my husband and our four children, in a house overlooking a green valley with views of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) and the Pyrenees.

This series of original paintings is born from how the countryside makes me feel: the fastidiously farmed fields, the sensational light, the sheer tranquility, the hundred hues of green, the constant wonder at sonorous birdsong, the calm of the countryside….

Currently the pieces are either trading card-size paintings (3.5" x 2.5") – officially ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) or postcard size (6" x 4").

Black Mountains in the Tarn, France (6" x 4") by Frances Marcellin (2026) - my first ever sale on eBay!

Paintings and process

I use watercolour, pen and ink (my lovely TWSBI fountain pen with waterproof carbon ink), and Derwent Lightfast coloured pencils, to build the scene in layers.

They’re painted on 300gsm cold-pressed paper, left unframed, and:

– signed on the back
– numbered as part of a series
– sent with a certificate of authenticity

Every piece is different!

My favourite things about creating original ACEO and postcard-size paintings

As I enjoy sketching so much, working with small sizes helps me to retain that sketchy feel, translating to the canvas how I feel in these places, and stops me overthinking.

I don’t have the space to fuss, so the painting either works or it doesn’t – which usually means it stays closer to the original feeling of a place.

I also like the limits of it. You have to simplify, to decide what actually matters in a landscape and let the rest fall away.

They’re easier to live with, too. No big decisions about walls or framing – you can prop them on a shelf or tiny holder, collect them in an art collector's album and easily move them to where you want to see these little canvases of joy! They just become part of your space – uplifting it!

And from a collecting point of view, they make owning original art feel more straightforward and more affordable, which feels more important than ever these days as AI ravages the landscape.
